Guide
How to use TipEasy
Everything you need, one step at a time. You only need your cellphone — there is nothing to download and no password to remember.
Create your account
Takes about two minutes.
- Open tipeasy.co.za/account/login on your phone.
- Type in your cellphone number and tap “Send me a code”.
- We text you a 6-digit code. Type it in and tap “Verify & sign in”. No password needed — you sign in this way every time.
- Fill in your first name, last name and what you do (waiter, car guard, petrol attendant, and so on).
- Tick the box to accept the Terms & Conditions, then tap “Finish setup”.
Didn’t get the code? Wait for the countdown to finish and tap “Resend code”. Check that the number you typed is your own — the code only goes to that phone.
You’re in. Your portal opens automatically — that’s your home screen from now on.
Get your QR code
This is how customers tip you.
- In your portal, tap the “Tip page” tab.
- You’ll see your personal QR code and link. A customer scans the code with their phone camera and pays right there — no app, no sign-up for them.
- Tap “Share on WhatsApp” to send your link to customers, friends or family.
- Tap “Open my tip page” to see exactly what a customer sees.
- Tap “Print” to print your QR card for the table, your badge or the counter — or “Download” to save the picture to your phone.
Want your photo on your tip page? Tap the “Details” tab, then “Edit”, then “Add photo” at the top. Customers like seeing who they’re tipping.
Customers can pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or straight from their banking app.
Check your tips
See what came in and what’s on its way.
- At the top of your portal you always see what you’ll be paid next — the total of the tips waiting, and when it will be sent to your bank.
- Tap the “Tips” tab to see every tip: the date, the amount, and a little speech bubble if the customer left you a message (tap it to read).
- The top of that tab shows your total received and how many tips you’ve had.
- Tap the “Payouts” tab to see the money already sent to your bank, and how many tips were in each payment.
We also send you an SMS whenever a payout is on its way to your bank.
Add your bank details
Where your tips get paid.
- In your portal, tap the “Details” tab.
- Tap “Edit” at the top right of “Your details”.
- Scroll down to “Payout method” and switch on “Has a bank account”.
- Under “Payout bank account”, fill in:
- Bank — pick yours from the list.
- Account type — usually “Cheque / current” or “Savings”.
- Account holder — the name on the account. It must be your own account.
- Account number — numbers only, no spaces.
- Tap “Save changes”.
Your account number and the name on the account are encrypted before we store them, and they are never shown on your public tip page.
Later, if you need to change bank: come back here, tap Edit and type in the new details. Leave the fields blank to keep what’s already on file — for safety we only show the last 4 digits.
Add your ID number
Needed once, before your first payout.
- Still in the “Details” tab, tap “Edit”.
- Find the “Identity verification” section.
- Choose your ID type — South African ID or passport.
- Type in your ID number (13 digits for a South African ID) or your passport number.
- Optional: tap “Upload ID document” and take a photo of your ID or passport.
- Tap “Save changes”.
We ask for this to confirm you are who you say you are and to stop someone else claiming your tips. Your ID number is encrypted and never appears on your tip page.
Once your bank details and ID are in, we switch on payouts for you. Until then your profile works, but money can’t be sent out yet.
Choose when you get paid
Daily or once a week — your choice.
- On the main portal screen, look for “Payout frequency” just under your next payout amount.
- Tap “Daily” to get your tips paid out every evening at 19:00.
- Or tap “Weekly (saver)” to let your tips build up and get paid out every Friday at 19:00.
- That’s it — it saves on its own. You can change it any time.
Weekly is handy if you’d rather save up and get one bigger payment instead of small amounts every day.
Get your tips now
When you can’t wait for the evening payout.
- On the main portal screen, under your waiting tips, tap “Get my tips now”.
- A message shows exactly how much will land in your bank account, after a flat R3 fee for the early payment.
- Tap to confirm — the money is then on its way to your bank.
Button greyed out? That happens when you have no tips waiting, when what’s waiting is less than the R3 fee, or when a previous payout is still on its way. Give it a few minutes and try again.
You don’t have to use this. Waiting for your normal daily or weekly payout costs you nothing extra.
